UCLan, Cyprus (Project Coordinator)

The University of Central Lancashire, Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus) is a private university operating in Cyprus and part of the University of Central Lancashire Group. It is a medium-sized organisation, employing approx. 100 employees and located in Larnaka, in the area of Pyla. Its first academic year has commenced on October 2012, offering premium British Higher Education within the Cyprus Educational framework and culture. It is a private University officially registered in the Registry of Private Universities of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus.

 

All programmes of study are evaluated and recognised by the Ministry of Education and the Republic of Cyprus, and meet the high quality standards required by the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). UCLan Cyprus offers programmes of study which lead to degrees jointly awarded by both the British and the Cypriot University of UCLan, fully validated by both countries.

 

 

UCLan Cyprus offers undergraduate degrees in Business (Accounting and Finance, Hospitality and Tourism, and Business Administration), Sports Management, Law, Psychology, Mathematics and Computing, and Postgraduate degrees in Business and Marketing, TESOL, Law, Computing, and Education. UCLan Cyprus hosts CEDAR, the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development – Alliance – Research. CEDAR aims to act as a catalyst for entrepreneurial development by building synergies between different areas of expertise in education, training, research, outreach, and policy.

  • Interdisciplinary focus e.g. innovations in education and training across life cycles; family structure and social capital influencing youth entrepreneurship CEDAR has been promoting number of projects and initiatives in the field of entrepreneurship, including:

  • Open forums, seminars, and workshops

  • Annual Business Idea Competition

  • Panorama Series concerning entrepreneurship, innovation and funding opportunities

  • Academic workshops & Conferences: e.g. Small Family Business Seminar Series, Larnaca 2015; China 2015 Family Business Conference; MFS Symposium Larnaka 2014, 2015; The Development of Greek Shipping Dynasties, London 2014; International Family Enterprise Research Academy - Cyprus 2009 CEDAR involves a team of UCLan Cyprus faculty and research associates.

 

CEDAR faculty and associate fellows are of international repute, credited with local, regional, and global initiatives seeking to promote teaching, executive education, research, consulting, and outreach activities in the entrepreneurship discipline.

Professor Panikkos Poutziouris, Chair of CEDAR Professor in Entrepreneurship & Family Business, UCLan Cyprus

Dr Poutziouris is Professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Business and Heads the School of Business and Management. He is an internationally recognized academic in the field of entrepreneurship, serving for almost two decades on the Faculty of Manchester Business School - University of Manchester (UK) as Fellow in SME Management, Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Visiting Associate Professor for Family Business Initiatives. He lectures, trains, researches, advises and consults on entrepreneurship and strategic development of family businesses and businesses families. Professor Poutziouris Panikkos is former President of IFERA and as active Fellow of Family Firms Institute; he is acting as the country expert on family business and entrepreneurship policy matters, working with OECD, European Commission and other stakeholder organizations. Dr Elias Hadjielias, Director of CEDAR Lecturer in Entrepreneurship, UCLan Cyprus

Dr Hadjielias is specialized in the fields of Collective Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Learning, researching these topics within SMEs and Family Businesses for almost a decade. Dr Hadjielias teaches also entrepreneurship-related topics at the MBA and undergraduate levels at UClan Cyprus. He has also relevant business consultancy and professional training experience. Currently, Elias is researching entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial learning within Cooperative-based SMEs in Cyprus.

Mr Konstantinos D. Melas

Konstantinos D. Melas is research associate in University of Central Lancashire, Cyprus and PhD candidate in Cyprus University of Technology. His research interests cover personal and household finance and family businesses. Before joining UCLan Cyprus, he has worked in the shipping and the asset management sectors.
